SSMS Encourages the Formation of Village MPA Around the Company

To encourage  the formation of  Fire Caring  Communities  (MPA) in  villages  around  the company,SSMS is ready to  provide  coaching  in  forest  and  land  fire  control  efforts (Karhutla).

In September 2021, SSMS  has  signed cooperation agreements with  4(four)  villages  including  Natai  Baru Village,  Kondang Village,  Rangda  Village, and  Umpang Village.

In this cooperation agreement, SSMS does not only conduct construction. But it also provides assistance in karhutla management training, making fire-prone maps of villages as a means of early warning, procedures for groundchecking and monitoring and equipment assistance.   .

Head of Baitg Village, Jamli  responded  positively to the cooperation  between the  company and baitg village. "MPA  is constrained by  human resources (HR) and equipment that is  still  limited. So the existence of this cooperation is very helpful because the company is willing to foster and provide technical training in handling during Karhutla in the village".

Head of Sustainability,  Henky  Satrio  W. This cooperation is a form of implementation of the company's sustainability commitment in managing fire risk. "SSMS is not only committed to controlling and preventing Karhutla for the Company's  concession  areas  but  also applies to villages around the company".

Although still  not  detected  fire  due  to  rain  and  hot weather that is  not  too  long. However, he also explained, it continues to make efforts to conduct  daily patrols, to monitor hotspots around the area and villages around the company. Furthermore, Henky  said the prevention or handling of Karhutla could not  be  done partially by each  party, there needed to be good   cooperation between the parties. "Therefore, to support and help the formation of  human resources  (HR), especially for villages that have not  formed an  MPA, SSMS is ready to  provide  development  for the village. " He  said.
