SSMS Build The Positive Synergy Between Researchers and Plantation Practitioners

To realize sustainable principles, this is certainly inseparable from the commitment of PT Sawit Sumbermas Sarana Tbk (SSMS) to maintain harmony between human resources and also the environment around the company's business locations. Sustainability which certainly proves the full commitment of all employees to carry out business practices in accordance with sustainability principles across all business lines, including in cooperation between researchers and plantation practitioners.

Through this synergy, it is expected that the same vision will be created by both researchers and plantation practitioners to jointly realize the Company's goals. To realize the principle of good corporate governance in the Company's business practices, Eldest Research Station (SRS) as a line of researchers conducted field day together with plantation practitioners related to best management practices to get optimal productivity on the company's plantation land.

Production is one of the goals that must be achieved, but there are many factors that affect the achievement of production. In general, one of the factors that result in production not reaching its progeny potential is climate and soil, this will result in the emergence of production potential that can be achieved in certain climatic and soil conditions that are in accordance with the environment of SSMS Plantation (site yield potential).

Head of Research (SRS) SSMS Fizrul Indra Lubis explained that there are several factors limiting production that need to be known together in addition to climate and soil, such as soil type, planting materials, nutrient status, fertilization recommendations and management practices (harvesting, treatment, fertilizer application, soil, and water conservation, etc.).

According to Fizrul, Management Practice has the greatest influence in achieving palm oil production with a percentage of about 20%. This factor can be greatly improved with proper and good management and treatment. To optimize this, SRS conveys recommendations both short-term and long-term to plantation practitioners. Some things that need to be done are the application of fertilizer on time, place, dose, and method, always maintain soil moisture by selectively weeding and consistency of the preparation of smelt, as well as consistency in soil and water conservation actions with regular application of organic materials and water management.

With the positive synergy built between researchers and practitioners of oil palm plantations owned by SSMS, it is expected to have a positive impact on increasing crop and land productivity, processing of production and other supporting activities.
