SSMS manages six palm oil mills (PKS) in Central Kalimantan, with a total production capacity of up to 440 tons of crude palm oil (CPO) per hour. In line with the company’s commitment to contribute to local economy, SSMS mills process fresh fruit brunch (FFB) from both nucleus and plasma plantations. In 2016, 0.63% of FFB processed by SSMS mills came from plasma plantations.
This number is projected to increase as more trees in plasma plantation mature and more plasma farmers get certified by RSPO. On the latter, SSMS is planning to help 9.649 Ha plasma plantations be RSPO-certified by 2020, giving plasma farmers access to the sustainable palm oil market. These best practices reflect SSMS’s belief that a sustainable palm oil value chain is not far-fetched and oil palm is indeed the crop of the future.
